Wrapping Up Warm

Tis the season to be cosy!

Details

As the temperatures drop and the cold settles in, it’s time to bust out the warmest of clothes. Fur lined cloaks, tartans and minks, the warmest wooly hats and thick scarves, all sorts of warm winter fashions crop up as soon as the first whiff of frost hits the homes of Kyvalore. From the rich districts of Reim to the simplest homes of Everdenn, everyone has their own style and favourite winter garment.

Draw or write about your character’s winter gear. Do they opt for something more practical, or are they more flashy and fashion oriented? Do they live somewhere like Durmur, where winter simply means more layers than usual, or they live in a more temperate city where the season signals a sharp contrast in dress?

Blizzard Business

It’s a whiteout!

Details

For the citizens of Durmur, snowstorms and blizzards are a fact of life—winter, spring, summer, fall. But for the rest of Kyvalore, snow is often a stranger that visits once or twice a year. A dusting of snow is fun, but a full blown blizzard? Say it ain’t so! Those who are unlucky enough to get caught in a strong snow storm are often lost to the winter cold, unless they are found by a volunteer search party, armed with hot soup and enchanted torches.

Show your Kyvalorian helping during a blizzard. Are they among the searchers, venturing out into the snow to look for the missing? Or are they busy in the kitchens, cooking up hot food? Maybe they’re stockpiling blankets and firewood to help warm up the rescued and the rescuers alike?

Warm Heart, Warm Hands

Time to spread some joy!

Details

When winter grips Kyvalore with bitter cold, Kyvalorians of all ages find warmth and solace in the company of friends and family. Fireplaces crackle, spreading light and heat; children gambol in the snow, coming back inside only when their toes have gone numb to consume hot cocoa with marshmallows and warm pastries, fresh from the oven.

At this time of year, these lonely Kyvalorians are brought into the fold of whatever family claims them—neighbors, coworkers, even strangers they see during their daily activities. Nobody should spend these dark months alone, after all.

Show your Kyvalorian spending time with others, whether it be friends, family, or complete strangers! Do they participate in volunteer groups that cook food for the community, or sing carols in the town square? Do they bake cookies to distribute among their neighbors? Or maybe they help clear the sidewalks of snow and ice, lighting lanterns to illuminate the long nights?

Catching Snowflakes

Every one is unique

Details

As winter finally settles into the crevices of Kyvalore, so too does the first snow of the year. Kyvalorians from far and wide get to experience snow in some measure; whether it’s the great snowfalls of Durmur or the occasional couple of flakes in Talendor. For some, this will be the first snowfall of their life, having never experienced a winter before, for others it’s just another cycle of seasons.

How does your Kyvalorian respond to the first snowfall of the year? Are they mesmerised? Inconvenienced? Indifferent? Are they used to dealing with the snow or is it something new?

A Questionable Attire

Details

You've been invited to a party of feasting and happy greetings to create warmth in a biting cold, but as sometimes things come, it comes with a downside.
It's been requested, required even, to wear a sweater of questionable content. "Make sure to wear your ugliest sweater!" it says.
You dont want to be the only one not wearing a sweater, do you?

Hunt or Hunted
Hunt or Hunted

Details

You had been called to aid the guards of Durmur, their pleas via letter reaching the farthest parts of Kyvalore. In exchange for shards, room & board, and enough traveller's tokens to get a caravan to carry you all the way to the frozen city and back, they ask for any able willing fighter to help.

Upon arriving to the city, you were given brief nods from fellow Kyvalorians, their solemn faces carrying the weight of the situation at hand. Some of the guards standing post at the cities edges were bandaged and bloodied from their own previous encounters with the monsters that dwelled far too close, and yet they stood there willing to give their lives to the city that held their family and friends. You could see now why help was so desperately requested. You set out, knowing these beasts shouldnt be hard to find given their destruction, but would be one of your greatest challenges to defend the residents of the mountain.

And you were right, it takes you some time to trek through the snow, but you find them easily.

The snow was a ruin of claw and hoof marks, the fresh blood cherry red against the stark white of nature. The herd of fallen yeudre at your back told you they had been here. The warmth of the fallen creatures told you that it was recent. A pack of onagari was afoot, and this wasn’t their first set of kills. These beasts had roamed the shrouded mountains for a very long time, but almost never in packs this big, and this close to civilization. Currently they were only projected to do irreparable damage to the ecosystem of the mountain. Left alone and the Avilli and Voxibells would be the main source of their food before long. It was a terrible day when it was learned that these creatures could break manabone with their powerful jaws, a feat generally thought impossible. The image of a den littered with manabone the size of gravel wouldn’t leave your mind. You were here to keep the onagari in check, so it could never reach that point. Softly padding your way up the incline you sneak a look over the ridge, and see them spread out below you. Each was at least the size of a dire voxi, with rust red fur and a great mane. Back feet of hooves for running, front paws full of claws for hunting and digging into the ice. Their face was a sharp horned mask of mana-maintained ice, constantly steaming and re-freezing from their ambient body temperature. They were fanned out, stalking yet another group of prey somewhere in the trees beyond.

Draw or write about your character treking the winter mountains and fighting an onogar or a pack of onogari. Does your character use their magic? or fight with tooth and nail? Do you trick the monsters to tumble off a cliff, or get trapped in an avalanche?

This is a battle prompt!
This means that your character will take damage and use mana from completing this prompt.

The amount is calculated behind the scenes by the mods and taken directly from your character. Beware, if your character hits 0, they cannot participate in prompts until they are healed!

These beasts are reactive and therefore can be easily tricked and can be fought with strength or will. Please be clear with your writing or art whether or not your character is fighting the onogari with brute force, or trickery.

Any focus characters that are fully classed in a magic specialty, redeem double the item awards.

Weeks have passed since your trip to the island of dread and it's guardian of shadow. Even now, when your guard slips for but a moment, you think you can feel it's eyes upon you. You had brought back the relic the shadow had been presiding over, a broken skull of unknown origins, and given it to Modeus for study. Having mostly shaken off the feelings of that bitter island, it seemed like a lingering bad dream, and things have returned to normalcy. A small knock graces your door. A letter has arrived for you, in a rich brown envelope sealed by intricate wax. Despite it's small and thin profile, you can feel the weight in it as you break the seal.

Salutations,
I hope this letter finds you in fair weather and jolly spirits. An interesting commotion has arrived and I hope to ask for your assistance for one additional task, loathe as I am to inquire so. I do hope our working relationship is well enough to allow your cooperation, for it is quite urgent.
The next few lines had scratch marks and blocks around some of the words, as if it was revised as he was writing it. Either he hadn't wanted to write out a new letter, or had written many already. I was investigating a new avenue of research out in the forests of the Letan Ruins, east of Lanris, you see. A dive into the connection between the World Spirit and the mana of living beings, quite fascinati. In tow I carried that strange artifact you brought to me. I sensed something lingering within, and have been here and there trying to find anything that may stoke it's nascent mana into exposing its secrets. While investigating the forest I was atta

I was attacked by a creature of amazing strength and ferocity. I was overpowered, and had to retreat by using the lunch as bait to lure it away. It resides in the forest still, and I need you to hunt it. It will hurt people if it isn't stopped. Please come to Lanris at your earliest convenience to setout for the ruins, I can send a carriage your way immediately. Come prepared.
And when you go, please try not to hurt the poor boy, would you?
Modeus

---------------------

This is a main story quest!
Unlike most quests this one is not a multiple choice!
In this quest you will explore the Letan Ruins to hunt for a beast.

You must have your character at a location to participate in the quest. However participating in this quest will move your character to Lanris.

In doing this quest, you are risking your safety and have a chance of becoming infected.
But by helping catch the lurking evil, you may be able to find out more about what lies under the surface of the corrupted mana.

Also unlike most story quests, this quest is repeatable!

Kyvalore’s fate rests within your story.

Draw or write about your character exploring the Letan Ruins in hunt of whatever attacked Modeous. How afraid of the dark are they when things surely DO go bump in the night? Do they find anything of use? What noises do they hear? Are there other things lurking about in the ruins they find useful or interesting?

The Weary Merchant

Details

Upon perusing the wares of the shops you stumble upon a merchant with the strangest stock. Upon his table, covered in dust and dirt from age, lay artifacts of an age long past. Towers of old handpainted pots, weapons of all shapes and sizes, and relics with unreadable runes. Two things that stand out to you, almost beckiningly are a few strange coins with old runes and a uneasy aura of magic around them, and a few small stone bird statues that could fit in the palm of your hand.

Draw or write about your character perusing this odd shop and obtaining one(1) of these two items.

This is a story quest for characters who did not previously gain either the strange coin or the bird statuette in a previous quest OR if you obtained an item and would like to use this prompt to now trade the item for the other if that character has not yet entered the Grave Isle or the Aetherin Forest.

While this quest does not affect the story of Kyvalore like other Story quests, this quest lets you get an item needed so you can participate in a current story quest or an item that lets your character gather rewards.

Drawing Requirements:

A partial body character, the cloaked traveler, and an advanced background

Details

While going about your busy day, your eyes catch something among the street. Nothing seemed particularly interesting about it, and if you were being honest, it looked like a scrap of paper that was tossed aside intended for the trash, and yet.. You reach for it. Feel it on your paws and glance over it. Strange markings and runes decorate the page that you’ve seen only on ancient relics, but not any known language to any living Kyvalorian you know.
Something about it feels… enticing. Like a strange invitation that speaks to the deepest parts of your soul. A desire to know what it says, understand it, speak it…
A whisper enters your mind, a callous tone about it. A feeling of dread overwhelms you. Something about this magic that pulses from the scrap you now hold feels wrong, tainted somehow. The parchment is speaking to you in words you cannot understand, it’s voice harsh, crackling, and growling. Words that cannot be translated and yet you feel that if you listen long enough you’ll be able to decipher at least the meaning of the words.

Draw or wrtie about your character finding this strange parchment. How do they react?
