NOVEMBER NEWS
Posted 2 years ago :: Last edited 2 years ago by WispariaHello all! Gosh the month of October seemed to fly by so fast, November crept up on me so quickly!
With the month of November I would first of all like to remind you that the Hallow Event isn't quite over yet! The Event quests for Hallow will stay active till November 12th as well as the Fayewood location quest to defend the city from Sahmaron. With that, Fang and Bone will keep Hallow's Grove open until the end of the month! That means you have till the 12th to keep collecting that tasty Hallow Corn and till the 30th to spend it in the shop this year! Dont fret if you miss that date, I'm sure Fang and Bone will be back next year for even more Hallow trickery.
Next on the agenda is a minor update to the shard system again. As you all know, Painted Relics is still in beta, so all of your participation and quests and feedback helps us determine how to build the best game we can. This can sometimes mean adding rewards, removing rewards, and adjusting rewards.
After the month of october with the hallow event allowing us to see how rewards would be gained in a higher volume, we have decided to reduce the adjustment of shard winnings from simple art back down to 50% of the total instead of 75%. We feel this adjustment helps keep the fair balance between players that submit art of high detail versus the players that draw in a simpler style/chibi art as we never want players feeling that by drawing high detailed art, they do not redeem as much as if they were to take less time with simpler art. As aslways this aims to be a reflection of the time that goes into it, and not the skill level involved.
We'll have a full feedback form sometime this month to ask about the overall aspects of the game as I will try to do this every so often to see how you feel about Painted Relics!
---
Speaking of feedback, after the mid month feeeback we did to talk about extensions of quests, specifically event and story quests, story quests will now last a month and a half! This allows players an extra half of a month to complete the quest, and allows the staff to decide where the story heads next and prepare needed content based on the choices of the players. With that being said, it looks like Rhea is following along...
The sun shined bright upon the port town of Ardglass, the wind gently blowing in from the sea bringing with it the fresh scent of salt and seaweed wafting through the cobblestone streets. Rhea took a big sniff as she flapped her wings a few more times to gain some altitude, eyes darting back and forth across the city. In her excitement for adventure her recent promise to Athalie to not push herself had already been forgotten, and Pikk was grumbling their disapproval from within her flapping satchel.
“Oh hush now” Rhea said to her gribble. “Modeous said they were in every city, so this stranger's gotta be here, right? Finding them can't take that long!”
It took that long.
The sky was glowing a burning orange and pink as the sun began to hide itself beyond the horizon. Rhea had long taken from the sky, and now was almost dragging herself through a maze of streets and side alleys, her conviction on finding this stranger not letting her give up now. The sky turned dark fast, Rhea had never quite gotten used to how fast it did this time of year. The only sounds now were the shuttering of windows and the distance clacking of carts returning to their holds for the evening. That, and Pikk's snoring, which was a comforting sound. She rounded a corner, and jumped back a second later than she normally would have, were she full of energy. The shadows made it seem like something was there for a moment, a quick pass of the light. She chided herself on her slow reactions, and continued forward, stopping suddenly after a few steps. No, something was there.
A figure, lithe but bulky, tall yet short. Four legs stretching out of a dark cloak, a hood with... no... without a face. They had a faint aura around them, simmering like they were giving off intense heat, but the air was only colder in their presence. It was clear, but it was dark and oily. They were a contradiction, a mystery, and exactly who Rhea was looking for.
Rhea's ears perked up, eyes alit with new energy she didn't possess a moment ago.
“Found you!” She exclaimed, jumping forward to get a closer look at the being. “Who are you? Who are you really?”
She leaped, paw outstretched to try and catch the stranger by surprise, but as she closed, they disappeared. She turned, confused, and now they were behind her. Still far away, still awash in whatever obscuring aura that was hiding any sense of detail around them. They were darker still than even the disappearing light, no glowing mana sigil betraying use of magic. Rhea's temper began to flare uncharacteristically, the weight behind her eyes growing fast as her continued exertion caught up to her much quicker than she hoped.
“Just what are you?” she snarled, her forehead lighting up the alley as her own mana sigil lit up. The light had no grip on the stranger, still as dark an mysterious as before. As she began to will her magic to the fore, she saw the stranger was no longer there. Disappeared in the span of an eye blink.
Rhea snarled again as her frustration continued to rise, and looked around again, expecting the stranger to be behind her yet again. This time, they were not. After a few moments, she took a big breath, and calmed her magic down, the glowing rune fading into nothing.
“Well that was something, wasn't it, Pikk?” She said wearily, what brainpower she had left after the long day churning with ideas and thoughts about what had just happened. She turned to begin the trek back to Athalie's.
She cried out from surprise as her head hit something hard and cold. A small token, like a large coin, floated in front of her, gently spinning. It was old, rusted and oxidized. Even in the faded light the edges of unrecognizable runes could be seen circling it's edge on both sides. Stood behind the coin was the stranger, a few feet back.
Before Rhea could say anything it gestured at the coin with a paw, the fur along it's arm both long and short, color blended perfectly with the alleyway around it. Rhea paused for a few moments, her tired brain processing this. Whoever this was was not a regular Kyvalorian, with unknown intentions and abilities unmatched by anyone she knew. Would she just take whatever it was they were offering? Could she? But if she didn't, she felt like she'd never get to the bottom of this mystery. It was clear this stranger could only be found when they wanted to be found. After some tense mental back and forth, she snatched the token out of the air. Feeling it's rough edges in her paw, she put it in a side pocket of her satchel, so that the now wide eyed Pikk wouldn't play with it.
“Ok, now wha-” she began to ask the stranger. But they were already gone.
Days passed, and Rhea had almost started to think she may have imagined part of that night, that she really had pushed herself past her breaking point after not taking enough rest. That was, until she was at the market, perusing some breads and meats. She gathered up her order, and brought it to the merchant at the end of the stall, someone she hadn't seen there before.
“This'll be all!” she said, setting it all down to be counted and weighed.
“This and passage, then?” the merchant said in a gruff voice. “To the Isle.” he elaborated to her quizzical look.
“I don't need-” she began.
“The Grave Isle.” He interrupted. “Other side of the mountains from here. That coin is the only thing I accept for travel there. That's the only reason to have that coin.”
Rhea was even more confused now. What coin? What did he mean? Then the realization hit, a cold shiver that, in hindsight, had always been there since that night. She pulled the rusted token out of the same pouch she put it in. He had no reason to know it was there, she had almost forgotten it was there. And yet here he was, paw outstretched to accept it with the same indifference as accepting any other payment dozens of times in a day.
“What is Grave Isle?” she asked, still holding the coin.
“An island to the southeast, on the other side of the mountains. It's a long journey by boat, the waves get rough once we can't follow the shore anymore. We leave tomorrow, before dawn.”
Her common sense screamed at her not to go, to take some time and consider her course of action. Her curiosity and sense of adventure handed the token over to the merchant. The deal was struck. She had to know.
------------
Strange things are afoot on Kyvalore. A new story quest awaits you if you obtained a strange token from the last story quest, if you decided to not take the token, a quest waits for you as well.
If you happened to miss the strange traveler from the previous story quest, there seems to be a strange stall in a market that could give you one of the needed items to enter one of this months quest.
If you've previously encountered the strange traveler and have the token or the ward but decided you'd like the other... I heard from Rhea the merchant mentioned he will let you trade if you'd like.
Participating in one of these new quests seems like it could earn you a new companion to take with you along your journey as well.
Meet the Lulari an the Rikruk! Two new pets that can be found in Kyvalore, currently only by participation in the story quests to get you to the new locations where they can be found.
I know this is getting long, but I promise we are almost done!
There's just a few minor things that have been added to the game to allow more accessibility to the content!
These items do not have images yet due to life being busy, but I will try to add images for them as soon as life allows!
- Minor Moth Potion
Grants one(1) Moth trait but does NOT grant the moth subtype.
-Home Token
An item that can be used to bypass the home setting quest. This allows players to jump in, have a home location and set out on their journey even quicker! Think of it like hiring a moving service. :)
Also this is your last month to get the Moth subtype potion! So get it while you can otherwise it will be back next fall!
And last but not least this month is going to be a busy month for me due to prepping for some holiday art events to sell my art, so please be patient and kind with the staff as they work to keep up with prompts and answering your questions on the discord. Of course I will still be around, but I wanted to give a heads up in case you see a noticeable dip in prompt approvals. I promise we are still getting to them, so just be patient with us.
Thank you all again for another wonderful month with Painted Relics, I can't wait to see all the wonderful things you keep creating! <3

As Hallow draws near, Fang and Bone have some schemes up their sleeve...
Time to Trick or Treat!
Once a day you can knock on Fang and Bone's door to claim a prize! Who knows what these two tricksters will give you?

I heard that if you visit them every day from now until the 31st they may have a special prize for you at the end.
Happy Hallow - October Update
Posted 2 years ago :: Last edited 2 years ago by Wisparia
The trees have finally shifted color to hues of orange and yellow littering the ground and sky from large gusts of wind. Rhea was absolutely in awe of her surroundings as she made her way along the winding path of the forest. Pikk grumbled happliy from his puch as he watched another leaf gracefully dance in the wind as it made its way past him. “It's finally autumn Pikk! You know what that means!” Pikk croaked happily in response. It meant food. And food was always his favorite. “Gosh FEASTS. So many feasts! We'll have to make our way to Everdenn as sooon as I deliver this letter to Astor.” She pranced on. Pikk croaked in acknowledgment but continued to watch the leaves fall. The ground crunched under Rhea's feet and she sighed heavily stretching her wings. “Too bad my wings are still too sore to fly though, huh Pikk. We'd surely get to Fayewood much faster then this if they would just manage to stop being so sore.” Her voice trailed off dissapointedly, but immediately her ears perked up. “Do you think Astor decorated yet? He always goes WAY overboard for Hallow. Oh I just can't wait to see!” Her pace picked up, the idea of Astors gleaming Hallow decorations, the pumpkins, skulls, spiders, bats... so many spooky things drove her forward on the damp path. “Maybe he hasn't decorated yet, but if he hasn't we can help! Hallow is just around the corner!”
-----------------
The month of October is here, and with it, the Hallow Event! There is a whole bunch of autumn themed quests to do, each location has a quest as well as there are event quests ready to be done to start gathering hallow items! Hallow items work for some new seasonal recipes, and will let you redeem some new event exclusive traits!
September Update - New Moth Avilli and Reward Adjustment
Posted 2 years ago :: Last edited 2 years ago by WispariaWelcome to September!
First off, I want to start with a big thank you to everyone for making the first Painted Relics Event a huge success! It was so much fun seeing how everyone had their characters hunting for treasure across Kyvalore! I loved seeing all the art and writing entries, and loved everyone's interpretations of our newest NPC.
If you missed out on the event, or didn't quite collect everything you wanted, don't fret! Captain Ravinger will still have his summer shop open till the end of September for any last minute purchases, and anything you have left over can be saved till next year! The event traits and items will return next summer.
---------
Next on the agenda is something I want to get done and out of the way, is a few game mechanic updates that should help with general quality of life for both players and mods.
There's been a large amount of what would be commonly be referred to as farming, and Painted Relics truly isn't built for that. With some members farming, and others working diligently on works and ending with the same rewards for significantly more work, it was clear that our scoring system needed another update in order to remain as fair as possible. We strive to not reward players based on skill, but on the effort they put forth in the work that they do.
So with that, shard reward scoring has gotten another update!
With that update I've gone through and completely restructured the shard count page with examples from so many lovely members of our arpg who let me use their work, while also addressing adjustments and changes based on player feedback. While I know there isn't a perfect system for grading, we are doing the best we can to build a system that is built on the effort you put forth into your work.
You can find the new shard guide here:
https://painted-relics.com/shardcount
The other mechanic update is that the world traveler prompt can now only be completed once(1) a week per character. This is to hopefully help negate a feeling of needing to speed run and rush through quests.
Traveler's Tokens can bypass this limit for now, but if we see an issue with this, it is something we will also look at adjusting.
---------
Onto the fun content!
Something interesting has been happening up in the branches and leaves of the Life Tree in Lynorre. Cocoons are now growing, and hatching into Moth Avilli!
Moth avilli are an avilli subtype that have an odd assortment of unique traits! You can check out the moth traits here:
https://painted-relics.com/world/traits?rarity_id=6
And you can read about Moth Avilli here:
https://painted-relics.com/world/subtypes?name=Moth
Astor seems to have a few Moth Nectar potions in stock in his potion shop as well.
---------
With the last story quest there was a resounding vote to listen to the words of the strange text.
Now the story continues and you have another choice to make to decide what happens.
“Rhea... Rhea have you heard?”
Rhea lifted her head slowly from her lectern where papers and ink bottles lay in an awkward pile. Sleep still clung to her eyes and she blinked hard looking for the source of the intrusion.
Athalie was peaking into her room, a curious look on her face and she rolled her eyes. Before pushing the door farther open and walking in, with a yellow and gray bird clinging to her back, and a small green and pink gribble trotting at her feet.
“Heard what?” Rhea yawned, stretching her wings so wide it hit the bottles of dried herbs and strange collections hanging from the edges of her ceiling. She glanced at her room... It hadn't been this messy since she was a child, but the spell she had cast really set her feeling drained so she didn't have the energy to take care of organizing all her new discoveries.
The voxibell before her sat down and shook her head. “You sure you're alright dear? I dont think it's wise for you to plan to head out again, not until you've gotten more rest. I told you it's fine that you stay with me a while.” She looked down at her gribble, as it was slowly making its way over to where Pikk, Rhea's gribble, was sleeping.
“The crew seems to appreciate the extra company, so don't go feeling like you're a burden still, okay?” Athalie looked at Rhea, and only concern and care written on her face.
“I know. I know. But I just... I've got this feeling. You know? Like something's out there. There's too many things to discover and find and I can't just sit here!” Rhea slumped to the ground dramatically. And folder her wings around her body. “I just wont fly or use mana for a bit so I don't over do it again. Promise.”
Athalie sighed, and her mana sigil formed above her head, she turned and a small ray of light echoed down the hallway, and in floated a small note with a broken wax seal on it's edge.
“Modeous sent this. It's definitely something interesting to find if you wanted to take a look.”
Rhea jumped up immediately as the note floated towards her.
“To Athalie & Rhea,
A strange rumor has been spreading around Lanris over the last few days, and strangely enough the same rumor has been in other cities across Kyvalore. Something about a cloaked figure, who offers travelers a deal. But when asked, no one seems to remember who this traveler was, how to find them, or what they looked like. I'm unsure what to make of it just yet, but I have a few of my students investigating the issue as an assignment.
If you could, please keep an eye out for this traveler, or any other rumors about them. If my theory is correct, this should have started occurring 2 days ago. Somehow... in every city. If you find anything interesting, please write. I'd like to look further into this matter, but at the present I cannot leave the rest of my students.
-Best Regards,
Modeous
P.S. Thank you for the cookies you sent last week. The cookies that were not eaten by my aierbis before they arrived were delightful.”
Rhea held it in front of her in her paws and a huge grin spread across her face. Adventure! She had something to hunt for!
And before Athalie could finish saying 'be safe' Rhea had grabbed Pikk and placed them in her satchel and headed out the door.
Athalie glanced at the letter from Modeous that had now been abandoned on the floor where Rhea once stood and an unwelcome cold chill went down her spine.
Just who was this stranger?

Tropic Treasure Trove Event
Posted 2 years ago :: Last edited 2 years ago by WispariaThe reflection of sunlight dances on the glistening waves as they crash onto the shoreline. The refreshing summer breeze carried over the ocean hits with a smell of the sweet and salty water. Loose spray mists over you, the birds sing and your fur blows in a soft breeze. It all feels refreshing, comforting, and exciting. It feels like summer.
Nowhere is feeling this buzz of energy quite like Ardglass and Reim. Signs have been posted across the two cities catching every eye, hastily drawn letters scrawled on sheets of large parchment. The parchment spreads rumors of a treasure map that had been lost at sea, now turning up on the beaches of Ardglass and Riem, along with other strange finds across the world of Kyvalore. This can only mean one thing.
Time to hunt!
The Tropic Treasure Trove is on!
Time to adventure, get out there, and hunt for treasure!
Event-related quests are now live on the site! Some quests reward you with treasure map pieces, while others reward you with treasure chests that hold secret loot.
Don't forget, if you get a map piece that you already have, you can trade with other players!
Quests can reward chests, and sometimes map pieces! With the map pieces, you will get one of nine of the map pieces. Turn in a completed map through claims to receive a Mythic Trait Potion of your choice.
Chests that can be found through the event can contain a large assortment of items, anything from pets, to summer coins, to crafting materials, to event items, to more map pieces!
Something seems to be wrong with chests though! They all appear to be locked!
Rhea says she thinks she knows the spell to open them, or might know someone that can lockpick them for you.
She says she’ll give you a nice reward if you can help her out!
Chests will be LOCKED for the first week of the event while Rhea works on the spell to open the chest, but you might be able to help her out to speed up the process on her Quest found under the event category
Lucky Lockpicking Pikk
Also a notice has been posted to be careful where you step on the beach when looking for treasure!
It’s that time of the year for Pukara to emerge from the ocean to bask in the summer sun!
Pukara can now be found across Kyvalore for the month of August. They only stay on land during the summer months, so collect them while you can before they return to the ocean.
Pukara can be found in all event boxes!
That's not the only summer pets that’s here, I heard there’s a few summer exclusive colors like this Seawing Kipin!
On top of the pets, we’ve got some event exclusive traits you can craft from your findings as well!
Collect materials through event-related quests, activities, and discord giveaways to craft items that will grant event traits.
Summer Event traits for the Tropic Treasure Trove fall under two item categories
Seaside Potion
The Seaside Potion can grant one of any of these traits:
Shell horns, Bubble Aura, Seaweed Growth, Bottle Body, Coral Manabone, Coral Horns, Seaglass Manabone, and Shell-Shaped Horns
Summer Fruit Skewers
The Summer Fruit Skewers can grant any one of these traits:
Fruit Horns, Fruity Tailtip, Juicy Manabone, and Fruit Bearing Aura
Visuals of these new traits can be found in the event trait category:
https://painted-relics.com/world/traits?rarity_id=5
Another important note is that in celebration of the Summer Event, the Caravan’s Guild is doing direct travel to Ardglass or Reim from anywhere on Kyvalore for the small price of 1 Traveller’s Token, so if you’re a ways away from Ardglass and Reim and want to get to the beach, it’s just one Token away!
Lastly, just by participating in the event you’ll receive a badge showing it off!
Keep an eye out for event updates as there will be more ways to earn event items through the month, and dont forget to join the discord if you havent!
There will be activities related to the event in the discord throughout the month, as well as potential sneak peaks to some of the event realted goods coming this month!
Good luck, and happy hunting! ♥
August Monthly Update
Posted 2 years ago :: Last edited 2 years ago by WispariaHello wonderful residents of Kyvalore!
It’s time for the monthly rollover and with that, new quests have been posted!
Not only that, but we’ve got some general maintenance updates, as well as some new content!
First off for general maintenance, I want to announce that requirements for prompts and such have been adjusted so the base requirements are lower for submitting prompts.
I think this will help the flexibility of everyone's busy schedules, while also letting players still participate in the location prompts.
With that I also want to say that we are working on being stricter on what each tier of requirements entail. There have been several prompts that either don't meet requirements, don't follow the shard breakdown guide, or do not seem to follow the topic of the quest in a clear manner that we felt it would be helpful to both mods and players if we had stricter guidelines as to what the minimum was for things.
Shard counts have also gotten a minor adjustment to help further balance the system.
Now for more fun topics!
I have recruited some Guest Artists for Painted Relics!
You will be seeing some designs made by other artists, for this month there will be a design by a guest artist posted each sunday at noon PST!
As always, Rhea’s Scavenging Shop’s stock has changed! She found some nice goods while traveling around last month!
Athalie also seems to have gotten some new pet eggs in her shop!
Each month going forward there will now be a gift art raffle!
Draw gift art for another player of Painted Relics and receive a ticket into a raffle that will be drawn at the end of the month. Please make sure the character you are drawing giftart for has ‘giftart allowed’ turned ON on their profile. Otherwise it will not count!
You can enter up to twice a month!
August’s prize is a MYO Voxibell slot and will be drawn at the end of the month!
Another fun addition to Painted Relics is permanent referral bonuses!
Eventually this will be more organized than just a page, but this is the easiest way for us to handle it at the moment!
https://painted-relics.com/info/Referral
Each referral will earn a player a small handful of shards, along with tiered badges that you get for referring more players.
Copper Friendship Badge - 1st Referral!
Silver Friendship Badge - 10th Referral!
Gold Friendship Badge - 25th Referral!
And lastly for standard Painted Relics updates is that there is a new addition to the main page!
You’ll now find a Featured Character section!
This character is chosen _randomly_ from all characters on the masterlist each month! If that character has giftart turned ON you can claim an extra 5 shard bonus to your quests if they are included!
Mid-Month Update - Gear!
Posted 2 years ago :: Last edited 2 years ago by Wisparia
The other important news is the navbar has been updated! You'll now find a shiny new Guidebook tab. This should help clear up some confusions on where to find some resources! It also
Marsh Dragon Voxibell Auction
Posted 2 years ago :: Last edited 2 years ago by WispariaAnd mythic voxibell auction we designed on stream earlier this week is up!
https://www.deviantart.com/wisparia/art/Marsh-Dragon-Voxibell-Auction-880458355
Thank you again for everyone who came and suggested traits and kept me company on the stream!
This does wrap up our full week of daily event activities, but the MYO event itself and the avilli raffle go till the 20th, and you still have till June 1st to find all the scavenger hunt items on the site! This doesnt mean that there wont be new content though! I've still got lots of little updates planned over the next few weeks so keep an eye out!
